Okay, so for all you fellow Canadians this is a scary time. Thanksgiving is next weekend and the treats that will be available and irresistible are abundant. What are you going to do? Fast for the three days before, so you can pig out to your hearts delight? Not good, we all know that.
One of the biggest problems I have, is the inconsistent eating schedule. I am not a morning eater. When I was growing up breakfast was not an enjoyable experience so I learned to skip it and wait for lunch. By then my body was so hungry I usually ended up eating junk instead of something healthy. Besides, your body goes into "fast mode" if you do not ply it with constant nourishment. So, although I do not eat large quantities anymore, my body still stays in the "fast mode" and holds on to any food I do consume. This is the biggest thing for me. I have trained my body to not eat regularly and now my brain doesn't give the message to my stomach until the physical aspect of it takes over and my stomach protests on its own. Then my brain is "reminded" that my body hasn't been nourished.
In todays society it is so easy to skip a meal. There are tons of ads that rely on the fact that we are too busy to stop and eat properly. There are the instant breakfast shakes, the 2 minute microwave meals, and countless other products designed for the "family on the go".
So, what do we do? Do we buy into the idea and go and pay a ridiculous amount for a quick no nonsense substitute? Or do we rearrange our schedules so we can have all pre-made meals the night before that we can grab on the way out the door? I was constantly saying "I don't have time to eat healthy!" But the more I thought about it I realized that the amount of time I spent polluting my body and mistreating it with instant gratification measures to satiate my pallet, I could be preparing something good for myself. Healthy food is not always awful "sawdust for flavor" food. Fruit is one of the best sources of vitamins and nutrients. It can fill you up if you have more than one, and fruits come in all sorts of flavor sensations. Changing our diet and your lifestyle is a step at a time, not an instant overnight result. It is a process. Like any other process in our life it takes time, consistency and constant effort. A positive attitude will take you further than you expected. So, don't get all down and depressed with the upcoming holiday. Eat what you will. Just make a deal with yourself. Go for a walk after you enjoy the sumptuous feast. Have fruit instead of that second piece of pie. Or just share a piece with a loved one. You get the taste fulfillment without the added guilt.
Whatever you do: Don't beat yourself up if you indulge. I am not saying it is a healthy thing to do. But the added psychological stress once you have indulged and didn't want to, does not help your body to rebound back. Get over it. Tomorrow is another day to start again. Maintenance is the key.
I have not lost another pound in 5 months since I lost my original 35 pounds. I have even added a pound or two over the months. But my body equals itself out by the way I have been training my body. Instead of getting depressed about the fact I still have 50 pounds to go,I feel good for every day that I can maintain. You know the saying "Two steps forward, one step back"? Well, it's still progress. It all depends on your perspective.
I am reviewing more articles to bring you helpful tips for a healthier life. I will keep you posted as I find them. Until then, keep a stiff upper lip. A positive attitude, and a lock on your "goodie cupboard". Just a little bit of humour there for you. A healthy outlook on life is one step closer to a healthy body.

Live television these days has pretty much been handed over to a select few veterans, like the morning shows, sports, and most awards extravaganzas.

you had me laughing and my full attention from beginning to end. That's what makes a great blog, one you can laugh and cry and really be identified with.
I wondered if when you do a long post like this, you could put a bit of paragraph space for older eyes like mine? The font is fine and easy to read. Overall, a great blog, one of the best I've come across.
P.S. you might want to check one of your ads, it seems to be showing HTML code.
